A small town in Mpumalanga which changed it's name to Balfour in 1905 after a visit by the then Prime Minister of Britain, Arthur Balfour who was highly regarded at the time. He made a speech on the station platform when his train stopped there.
The town was originally called McHattiesburg after Frederick McHattie, the owner of the farm on which the town was planned . Balfour was proclaimed a town in 1898.
